Research facilitation and management for Newfoundland and Labrador’s offshore industry

  Petroleum Research is a federally-incorporated, not-for-profit organization that facilitates and funds research and development on behalf of Newfoundland and Labrador’s offshore oil and gas industry.   Over $60 million in Research and Development Projects have been managed by Petroleum Research since 2012. 

Petroleum Research is a member-based organization that identifies research and technology development opportunities that deliver value to its oil and gas industry participants.  Petroleum Research’s members are:

  • Chevron Canada Resources;
  • ExxonMobil Canada Ltd.;
  • Husky Energy;
  • Statoil Canada; and,
  • Suncor Energy.

Research that we undertake fits within our research focus areas and can range from early phase applied research to full-scale technology adaptation or development.  Petroleum Research partners with academia, industry and government organizations to develop and deliver research programs and projects with budgets that range from less than $100k to more than $5M.   Petroleum Research undertakes research program development activities, funds individual research and capacity building activities and ensures research activities are managed and delivered effectively.  Research activities are generally undertaken with a view to ensuring that research results are practical and valuable for the research funders, have positive economic benefits for Newfoundland and Labrador, are well leveraged, and also help develop capacity and capability in its research focus areas.  All R&D funded by Petroleum Research takes place in Newfoundland and Labrador.
